Planeterra’s Impact Reports
Tourism is a multi-trillion-dollar industry, yet the communities that make travel possible do not always benefit fairly from it. Planeterra works alongside communities, local organizations and the wider travel industry to help strengthen Community Tourism in ways that create income, support local leadership, protect culture and nature, and connect communities to longer-term market opportunities.

Our 2025 Impact Report
Our 2025 year highlights what Community Tourism made possible: 254,941 people impacted, CAD $3.32M in community revenue, 124,717 traveller visits, and 2,063,583 trees planted. Beyond the numbers, the report tells stories of women building livelihoods, youth leading change, communities protecting biodiversity, and local enterprises shaping tourism.

2024 Impact Report
2024 was a year of deepening impact for Planeterra and our global network. We expanded support for communities through tourism and climate initiatives, helping more than 30,000 people earn income, while growing the Planeterra Community Tourism Network to 550+ organizations. Our tree-growing program reached 2.65 million trees, and new partnerships with Evaneos and G Touring helped connect more communities to the benefits of tourism.

2023 Impact Report
2023 marked Planeterra’s 20th anniversary — two decades of championing community tourism. We celebrated with GX in Cuzco, Peru, hosting 400+ attendees, and launched key initiatives like Project 300 and Trees for Days at the World Community Tourism Summit. New partnerships with Iberostar and continued work with IUCN reinforced our commitment to making travel a force for good.

2022 Impact Report
From our collaboration with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) to the successful launch of the Global Community Tourism Fund, we tirelessly worked throughout 2022 to amplify the voices of communities and advocate for their inclusion in key discussions about the future of tourism.

2021 Impact Report
From the launch of the Global Community Tourism Network, the Planeterra Trek Challenge, our partnership with the International Union for Conservation of Nature, and completing Project 100 through our year-end fundraiser the Wish List, despite the challenges of the ongoing global pandemic, we are proud of what was accomplished in 2021.

2020 Impact Report
2020 started on a high, having set our sights on the successful launch of Project 100, poised to positively impact at least 100 communities by year’s end. However, COVID-19 had other plans for the world. The travel industry and the communities that we work with had an extremely difficult year, but our supporters were there to help.

2019 Impact Report
2019 was monumental for Planeterra, as we achieved our 50 in 5 goal, launched 15 new projects, and forged partnerships with new travel brands like Travelsphere and Just You. Not to mention all of the incredible stories of impact we heard – too many for a 26-page report – but we’ve highlighted a handful.

2018 Impact Report
2018 was an eventful year, filled with social and political movements, polarizing world events, and endless news cycles. Here at Planeterra, we watched the momentum of grassroots-driven movements surge around issues like gender equality. We knew this year we had to put focus on these issues, with our own twist.
