Protected areas can create important opportunities for conservation, livelihoods and connection with nature, but communities around them can struggle to benefit from tourism, particularly following periods of crisis.

Working with IUCN and partners, Planeterra supported communities in and around protected areas in Peru and Vietnam to strengthen tourism capacity, understand local priorities and develop pathways toward more sustainable tourism.

The project explored how community participation, improved tourism capacity and stronger connections to markets can contribute to more resilient tourism systems that benefit both people and protected areas.
